SENDERO CERRADO ACTUALMENTE AL USO PUBLICO. DISCULPEN LAS MOLESTIAS
Esta ruta de escasa dificultad y gran belleza nos conduce desde las casas de Mirasol hasta los cuchillos de Contreras. En este sendero no se ven las propias hoces del río, que se encuentran más al sur y que están restringidas al uso público principalmente por protección de la avifauna rupícola. Se trata de una ruta que discurre en gran parte junto al río Cabriel, y que nos permite recorrer la base de los espectaculares cuchillos y observar una valiosa garriga en las umbrías. Si vamos atentos y en silencio, podremos ver distintas especies de fauna como ardillas y cabras montesas y, por encima de nuestras cabezas, quizá las amenazadas águilas real y perdicera.
This easy and beautiful path lead us from the houses of Mirasol to the tunnels by the “Cuchillos de Contreras”. Along the path we walk through the “Cuchillos”, but the “Hoces”, located further downstream, are forbidden to hiking on conservation purposes. The path runs mainly along the river Cabriel and lead us to the impressive "Cuchillos" and to observe a valuable scrub vegetation in the shady areas by the path. Going careful and silent, we could see different animal species such as Red Squirrels or Iberian Ibex and, above our heads, perhaps the threatened Golden Eagle and Bonelli's Eagle.
cuchillos.kmlPara llegar desde Cuenca o desde Madrid, debemos ir a la localidad conquense de Minglanilla y allí coger la carretera nacional N-III en sentido Valencia. Debemos seguir las indicaciones hacia la reserva natural y el puerto de Contreras. Al pasar el km 234 de la carretera N-III, antes de cruzar la presa de Contreras, hay un desvío a mano derecha, indicado como "reserva natural" y "puerto de Contreras", en el que cogeremos la antigua carretera del puerto de Contreras CV-4661.
Si viaja desde Valencia por la A-3, debe tomar la salida 255 en Villargordo del Cabriel, coger la N-III y cruzar la presa de Contreras, para coger el mencionado desvío (que encontrará a su izquierda) hacia la CV-4661.
Bajando por la carretera CV-4661, nada más pasar la Venta de Contreras, en la curva de la carretera hay un aparcamiento para autobuses, del que sale una senda que nos conduce al sendero. Aquí se encuentra ubicado el punto de información de la reserva natural, que abre los fines de semana y festivos. Si vamos en coche podemos continuar: a 250 m de la curva bajo la Venta sale un desvío a mano derecha, indicado como "reserva natural" y "sendero interpretativo". Es una carretera estrecha y asfaltada que nos conduce a la orilla del río Cabriel, tras recorrer 1.300 m hay un aparcamiento a mano derecha.
Encontrarán señales que indican que se encuentran en una finca privada, sin embargo el camino es público y pueden circular por él.
Tras dejar el coche, continuamos andando por el camino 220 m y llegamos a las casas de Mirasol. Desde este punto, hay 3 km hasta los túneles de los Cuchillos y el puente de hierro. Allí finaliza el sendero y debemos volver sobre nuestros pasos.
If you are travelling from Cuenca or from Madrid, you must head to Minglanilla (exit 242) and then take the road N-III towards Valencia. You should follow the brown signs to the “Reserva Natural Hoces del Cabriel”. Just after km 234, before crossing over the Contreras dam, you should take a small and winding road to the right (CV-4661 road), signposted "Reserva Natural Hoces del Cabriel" and "Puerto de Contreras". If you come from Valencia you should leave the highway at Villargordo del Cabriel (exit 255) to the N-III road, and cross Contreras dam to arrive at the same junction.
The road passes beside the old inn “Venta de Contreras” and just below it there is a car park where buses must stop. Here you'll find our Information Point, open on weekends and holidays. You can either walk from here to the start of the Natural Reserve itinerary, or –if by private car- drive on. About 250 meters after the car park there is a sharp detour to the right, signposted "Reserva Natural" and "Sendero Interpretativo". The very narrow paved road leads you downstream the banks of river Cabriel for 1.3 km to yet another car park on your right. Although you will find signs claiming that you enter a private property, the road is public and you are allowed to drive and walk through it.
From the car park you should walk another 220 m along the road to get to “Casas de Mirasol”. The itinerary runs 3 km from here, and you should not leave the track until you reach the tunnels excavated in rock under the “Cuchillos”. You can see too an iron bridge near to the tunnels, this is the end of the route and you must retrace your steps.

El sendero puede realizarse en cualquier época del año, evitando las horas centrales del día durante el verano, ya que se trata de una zona muy calurosa. Además se recuerda que no hay fuentes en el recorrido por lo que deben llevar agua.
You can walk the trail at any time of the year, but it is recommended to avoid the central hours of the day during the summer, since it can be very hot. There are no water sources, so you should carry your own water.
